James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser aka Mac Dubn (Son of the Black One) aka Red Jamie

Born 1721
Well over 6 feet tall and sturdy of build, Jamie boasts a flaming red-gold mane that flows in waves to his mid-back. His startling dark blue eyes slant in a manner that makes one quickly make comparisons with those of a cat, and he bears the flat cheekbones of a Viking.

Laird of Broch Tuarach, The youngest son of Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser (elder brother William b1716 d1727, sister Janet b1719); illegitimately descended (though legitimately born) grandson of Simon Fraser (The Old Fox);Claire's second husband, father of Faith Fraser(stillborn), and Brianna Ellen Randall Fraser. Nephew to Colum MacKenzie mac Campbell_Chief of the MacKenzies of Leoch and Dougal MacKenzie war Chieftain of Clan MacKenzie, brothers to Ellen.

Seriously injured at Culloden, Jamie's fate allowed for his return to his family home but forced him into hiding with the confines of a small "V" shaped cave within the nearby hills. The cave was no more than 8 feet long, and 6 feet wide, a dim dirt floored cavity, with a ceiling so low that he could only stand upright near it's entrance.

Jamie bears the scars of a youth marked by horrors few could imagine. His back is covered with a criss-cross of faded white lines, evidence that he's been savagely flogged more than once. There are small white lines of silvery scar tissue in some spots, where the welts have crossed, and irregular patches where several blows had struck the same spot, flaying of skin and gouging the muscles beneath. The scarring covers his entire back from shoulder to waist. There are also several spots of scarring on his chest that appear to be burns, and a "V" shaped scar at the hollow of his throat. Across the back of his head runs a six inch weal of scar tissue, and when tired it is not unusual for Jamie to suffer headaches or slight vision blurring. His right hand appears to have been severly broken at one time with a round scar remaining on both the front and back of it. The breaks healed badly and several fingers lack full mobility while his ring finger is completely immobile. He also bears a twisted 8" scar from mid-thigh to groin, and a slight scar on the bridge of his nose, both reminders of Culloden.

Much of who Jamie Fraser is comes as a result of his loyalty to Clan and family, however he was also strongly shaped by the events leading to and resulting from the Battle of Culloden. I encourage those of you not familiar with the history to visit the following two sites:

Lochiel, Lochiel! beware of the day
When the Lowlands shall meet thee in battle array!
For a field of the dead rushes red on my sight,
And the clans of Culloden are scattered in fight.
They rally, they bleed, for their country and crown;
Woe, woe, to the rider that tramples them down!
Proud Cumberland prances, insulting the slain,
And their hoof-beaten bosoms are trod to the plain.

Rather than trying to retain information from all seven books in this series, I am going to only use Jamie's experiences prior to Claire's return through the stones after Brianna has been born and grown for my posts.

This timeframe will encompass not just his experiences at Culloden, but his 7 years in hiding near Lallybroch, his imprisonment at Ardsmuir, and his release into indentured servitude at Helwater while his clanmates and other men of Ardsmuir were being exiled to America. I will most likely delve into his feelings after being blackmailed into bedding Geneva (and the subsequent birth and early childhood of his illegitimate son William to her)but will not touch on anything that takes place following his departure from Helwater.

The character of Jamie Fraser is not mine. No copyright infringement is intended with his use, and this journal was created for entertainment/role playing purposes only. While he's a little older than Jamie should be, I've decided to adopt Liam Neeson as my PB for Jamie.
